Magnum Shooting Center

Project Snapshot

This was a project so successful that the client came back for more! RMG was approached by the Magnum Shooting Center to provide the architectural design for a facility that was all about big ideas and big goals. Not only would it feature 24 pistol/rifle lanes, two 50-yard rifle lanes, and six 100-yard pistol/rifle lanes, but also classrooms, a shooter’s lounge, and a 4,000 square foot retail center. RMG’s structural engineering team took a unique approach and designed steel bar joist roof framing and steel plate baffles above the shooting lanes to support the roof. RMG also provided the geotechnical engineering and construction compliance observations, which included conducting a subsurface soil investigation to determine the type of soil and the foundation engineering specifications. We performed open excavation observations, footing and wall reinforcing observations, concrete testing, and soil compaction testing. Going even further, RMG provided the Mechanically Earth Stabilized (MSE) geogrid reinforced retaining wall design and construction compliance observations for the walls surrounding the site.

Impact

As a construction cost savings, metal stud exterior walls were designed as bearing walls at the retail shop. Several months after construction was complete, when a fire damaged parts of the building, RMG came in and provided a supplemental investigation to repair the building. Our commitment to client service made such an impact that when the client was ready to construct a second shooting range in a nearby closed retail space, they asked RMG to be part of that successful project.
